Allen: “CLF has provided me with one of the best experiences I'll ever have. To travel to Japan, a place that I have always been drawn to, with such amazing people was such a blessing. Listening to every single person's story as well as building one together in Japan felt surreal. My most memorable experience of the fellowship was our last night, just walking down the streets of Japan, everyone happy and laughing. The joy I felt was irreplaceable. CLF has had a great impact in my life as it helped me expand my knowledge to different cultures. To be able to study another place's history and traditions was an eye-opening experience and I hope more people get the chance to feel what I was able to feel."
Katia: “The most memorable part of the fellowship was the entire experience. Traveling to Japan was unforgettable. It wasn’t a country I had initially considered visiting, but it turned out to be the best decision I ever made for traveling outside the United States. Scholar Fund provided a safe space where incredible people from across the U.S., including many first-time travelers, could come together and share a life-changing moment. I had always dreamed of traveling outside the country but wasn't sure if it was possible. My trip to Japan turned that dream into reality. Scholar Fund made this possible, and now I hope to explore more of the world beyond the United States.”
Erick: “Japan has something to offer at every corner, from cultural landmarks to local staples and all the treats that your heart desires. It is a place that has celebrated and preserved its culture for thousands of years. Even though it has everything to offer, the most memorable part of the trip was the community we built as undocumented folk on the other side of the world. From the very start, we went into creating a deeply rooted bond connected through this unspoken shared experience that we all have. Experiencing this community, and a culture so different than my own has been a big reminder now that I’m back, that we deserve to live through and experience joy, as undocumented people, as DACA recipients, and as people. I’m grateful for everyone who has worked diligently behind the scenes to make this experience possible for me and so many others.”
